Teacher Cadet helped validate my life-long dream to become a teacher. It provided my first experience in the classroom. The program assisted me in qualifying for the Teaching Fellows Scholarship. Because of Teacher Cadet I became inspired, motivated, and encouraged to touch the lives of the sweet children in my community. As a first-year kindergarten teacher, it is truly an overwhelming feeling to know that I am providing hundreds of students with their first educational experience that will show them they are loved, that school is a safe place, and that learning is fun!

Teacher cadets gave me an opportunity to establish myself as an educator. Even though I was just a senior in high school, I am now able to utilize some of the ideas, resources and relationships I made during my time as a cadet.

I knew since the age of five that I wanted to be a teacher, and in fifth grade that dream was confirmed. In high school, Teacher Cadet was the breath of fresh air that I needed to assure that this was my dream career. It prepared me in every aspect to be a teacher. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for those beginning steps in Teacher Cadet under Dr. Carolyn Gilliard.

I am so thankful for the opportunity I had to be a part of the Teacher Cadet program in High School. I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be a teacher but this was the first opportunity I had to get in a classroom and see just how big of an impact a teacher can make. It helped me see that I wanted to work with younger students and helped me pick a major as I prepared for college.

The Teacher Cadet Program gave me field experience to confirm that I did actually want to be a teacher. The curriculum of the course prepared me for the rigorous demands of the education program at Clemson University, while igniting my passion to be an educator. It is that same passion that began in Teacher Cadets that keeps me coming to work and building relationships with students on a daily basis.

Teacher Cadet prepared me for the world of education because it showed me that teaching is more than just grades and a textbook to teach from. It is about creativity and original ideas not only for how to teach, but to build relationships with young students.
