Biography
Thomas Langford – Biography Thomas Langford has a love and passion for teaching and helping students to excel in their dream of becoming a teacher. He has 13 years of experience in education, teaching in the public-school system. He has had the opportunity to teach students of all ages from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. For the past 4 years, Mr. Langford has been a ProTeam instructor, promoting education as a career choice and growing student leaders. Langford is a proud graduate of Sumter High School (2004) and was a part of the wind ensemble, jazz band, marching band, brass ensemble, and symphony orchestra. He served as drum major and section leader as a Sumter High Marching Gamecock. He graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education – Instrumental (2009) and from Liberty University with a Master of Arts in Music Education – Musical Studies (2022). He began his teaching career in Charlotte at Northridge Middle School and has since taught at Chestnut Oaks Middle School, Sumter High School, Mayewood Middle School, R.E. Davis Elementary, and most recently at R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy in his hometown. As a mentor and dedicated teacher, Langford has had many students participate in district honor bands, region bands, and the South Carolina All-State Band. His students have also been accepted to honor bands at The University of South Carolina, Winthrop University, Coastal Carolina University, and Limestone University. As a director, Langford’s bands have earned excellent and superior ratings at state and regional contests and festivals. As an experienced professional educator, Langford has served on the leadership team at R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy, and as a mentor teacher for Sumter School District. In 2019, he was named the Campus Teacher of the Year at R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy, and the Middle School Educator of the Year by the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce. Langford is also wholly dedicated to his local community. Since 2016, he has served as the Orchestra Director at First Baptist Church, Sumter, where he helped the church initiate and develop the Orchestra Scholarship Program. This program provides students the opportunity to earn college scholarship money by playing in the church orchestra. In addition, Langford was recognized as a Top 20 Under 40 Young Professional by The Sumter Item newspaper 2021. Additionally, he was named a Who’s Who by the national organization Marquis Who’s Who in Fall 2021. Thomas Langford is passionate about teaching and helping students learn to be the best version of themselves they can be. |
