After graduating from Walterboro High School in 1976, Jean earned a B.A. in Special Education from Winthrop University in 1980 and a Masters in Reading from Clemson University in 2006.
She taught Special Education and elementary school in Colleton County, and in moving to Horry County in 1989, she found her passion for teaching: language arts and middle school. She taught at Conway Middle School, a Palmetto’s Finest and National Blue Ribbon School, and then she moved to Loris Middle with National Principal finalist, Judy Beard, to work with children of extreme poverty. She retired from Whittemore Park Middle in 2014, where she now serves as SIC Chairperson and cheerleader “mom.” Jean is a minister of music in Georgetown, is married to Dan Burden, and is the mother of four children, stepmother to one, and grandmother to six. Her first book of devotionals will be released in October of this year.
